UNILAG Reinstates Student Activist Five Years After Rustication

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has reinstated Olorunfemi Adeyeye, a student activist, who was rusticated over five years ago by the management of the institution.

Olorunfemi Adeyeye

In 2016, Adeyeye, a student of the department of building, bagged a four-semester suspension for participating in a student protest on April 6 and 8, 2016, which resulted in the temporary closure of the school. He was accused of ridiculing the college.

Adeyeye was also accused of criticising the institution’s leadership in an social media platforms.

Adeyeye was also charged with taking a squad known as ‘Save UNILAG Coalition’ to the school campus on March 31, 2016, to disrupt operations of the dean of student affairs’ office.

However, he was reinstated by the institution on Monday night. He noticed his reinstatement when he attempted to log in to his student portal and it was successful.

“Since I was rusticated, a lot has changed,” he told FIJ. “The UNILAG Alumni Association in the United States of America, as well as several other organisations, intervened in the matter. I got on my student portal yesterday and discovered that I can now log in.”
