Eligibility Factors For UNILAG Postgraduate (Masters & PGD) Programme; Check If You Are Eligible To Apply ???

The University of Lagos (Unilag) offers various postgraduate programs for students who have completed their undergraduate studies and wish to pursue further academic degrees. 

To be eligible for Unilag postgraduate programs, prospective students must meet the following CORE requirements:

1. Educational Qualification: Applicants must possess a first degree from a recognized institution with a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) or a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree, depending on the course of study.

Some courses also accepts 3rd class for straight masters without necessarily doing a PGD course

2. Work Experience: Depending on the course of study you want to apply into, applicants may be required to have relevant work experience of at least two to three years in a related field.

3. Age Limit: There is no age limit for postgraduate studies at Unilag, but applicants are expected to be mature and capable of handling the demands of the program.

4. Entrance Examination: Prospective students must also take and pass the Unilag Postgraduate Entrance Examination and meet the minimum score required for their chosen program. Get Entrance Examination Materials/Past Questions & Answers Here

5. Transcript and Certificates: Applicants must provide their academic transcripts or certificates from their previous institutions, as well as other relevant documents such as their NYSC discharge certificate (for Nigerian applicants) or an exemption certificate. Where Original certificate is available, there won’t be need for any transcript. Candidates can also apply with statement of results but at the point of final clearance after admission you must provide your original certificate or transcript.

6. Referee Reports: Applicants must also provide at least two reference letters from academic and/or professional referees who can attest to their academic and/or professional abilities.(The letter is no longer a compulsory requirement. During the process of application candidates will now be required to fill in two referees contact details on the application form and that settles it.)

It is important to note that meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission into Unilag postgraduate programs. 

Admission is highly competitive, and the final decision is based on a holistic assessment of all the applicants’ qualifications, including academic performance, work experience, entrance examination scores.
